Fuel efficiency of combustion engines is increasingly achieved through turbo-chargers, which deliver compressed, oxygen-rich air for the air-intake. To achieve the highest level of oxygenation, the compressed hot air is chilled by the charge-air cooler. The connecting turbo-hose must be able to withstand temperatures up to 230°C ( in some cases higher), survive charge-air pressures in excess of 2.5 bars (36 psi), and remain highly flexible even at arctic temperatures. Momentive custom elastomers allow OEM’s and Tier 1’s to meet these demanding conditions and are successfully used in a variety of applications in the global automotive industry. Many hoses are equipped with a polar inliner made from Momentive’s Fluorosilicone HCR base compounds.
