MPM Products to be Used in Multiple Live Demonstrations at Fakuma

MPM PRODUCTS TO BE USED IN MULTIPLE LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS AT FAKUMA

Waterford, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2014) – Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (MPM) elastomer products will be featured in a variety of live demonstrations in collaboration with industry partners at Fakuma 2014, Oct. 14 – 18. These demonstrations will showcase the processing qualities and benefits of MPM’s Silopren* liquid silicone rubber (LSR) for injection molding.

At booth A6 6312, MPM will feature a micromolding application on a machine made by Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH (Wittmann Battenfeld) with a mold from Awetis engineering+manufacturing GmbH (Awetis). Small plugs for mobile phones will be molded from Silopren LSR 2070 to show the use of this product in an actual manufacturing process.

Engel Austria GmbH will show two-component molding in a fully-automated setup with a mold from ACH Solution GmbH at booth A5 5204. Using self-bonding Silopren LSR 2740 for a micro-molded sealing lip of a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) housing, this demonstration will show that LSR is an excellent candidate to consider for precision molding of small parts in short cycle times. One sealing lip weighs just 0.04 grams.

Wittmann Battenfeld will demonstrate two processing applications with Silopren LSR in booth B1 1204. The first process will use the optically clear Silopren LSR 7070 FC with a micromold developed by Awetis to exhibit the manufacturing of small lenses for applications such as mobile phones. This process will show how the optically clear Silopren LSR 7000 family can be an excellent choice for molding applications requiring excellent transparency in combination with heat and UV resistance. The second process will use Silopren LSR 2070 in the manufacturing and automated assembly of penholders to demonstrate the excellent processability of Silopren LSR in mass production of larger assemblies. This exhibition will use a mold built by Elasmo Systems GmbH, LSR pumping system supplied by NEXUS Automation GmbH and an overall setup, including automation, by Wittmann Battenfeld.

Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG will demonstrate how molds run on self-bonding Silopren LSR 2750 in booth A7 7101 by making ice-scrapers with polyamide (PA) as the plastic substrate and a mold created by EMDE Industrie-Technik GmbH. This demonstration will show Silopren LSR’s compatibility with molding cycles of typical engineering thermoplastics and its primerless adhesion, which can benefit many hard-soft combinations in consumer goods.

“These demonstrations will show a complete view of our approach,” says Oliver Franssen, MPM Global Marketing Director. “MPM offers a global portfolio of outstanding Silopren LSR grades, extensive expertise in application development and a broad industry network of potential collaborators.”
