Momentive Performance Materials to Showcase Advances in CoatOSil* Silicon-Based Additives for Enhanced Coating Performance
Albany, NY (May 8, 2012) — Momentive Performance Materials, one of the largest global manufacturers of silicones, will feature three silicon-based specialty additives that can enhance coating performance at the American Coatings Show, May 8–10 in Indianapolis, IN, USA.
CoatOSil 7001 copolymer has been demonstrated to improve flow and leveling in solventborne coatings, resulting in improved film clarity and distinctiveness of image (DOI). Testing using industry-standard methods has demonstrated that CoatOSil 7001 can deliver better flow and leveling properties at lower usage levels than many other materials currently in use. The improved flow and leveling properties of CoatOSil 7001 copolymer make it an excellent choice to consider as a flow and leveling additive in clearcoat and monocoat formulations in automotive and other applications.
CoatOSil MP 200 crosslinker can enhance the performance of waterborne coatings in a variety of ways. The oligomeric structure of the crosslinker, which is multifunctional, can chemically bond with a multiplicity of organic and inorganic substrates for enhanced adhesion to a broad spectrum of surfaces. The crosslinking properties of CoatOSil MP 200 silane also can result in excellent chemical and scrub resistance.
CoatOSil 2287 silane has been shown to improve the physical properties of waterborne, polyurethane-based polymer dispersions. When CoatOSil silane is incorporated as a crosslinker or adhesion promoter, testing demonstrates that it can increase both water resistance and wet adhesion, along with good shelf stability. CoatOSil 2287 silane is also resistant to yellowing, making it an excellent candidate to consider for wood and/or metal coatings.
