NXT P97 is another family member of Momentive’s mercapto silanes for Tire and Rubber applications. The use of NXT P97 silane can support the tire industry to meet the increasing requirements to reduce rolling resistance and at the same time improve wear performance of tires. With that, this additive greatly helps tire manufacturers to reduce the tire-use related emissions.

Description

NXT P97 exhibits superior performance during the tire-use phase. Here is a list of typical improvements seen and formulating recommendations, to characterize this product:

  • Wear — the use of NXT P97 silane may result in improved DIN and Angle Abrasion over standard silanes. Tires may benefit from increased mileage, or the possibility to reduce tire tread depth, resulting in improved RR and lower material usage and cost.
  • Rolling resistance (RR) — NXT P97 silane-based compounds may show very low hysteresis and improved RR indicators compared to standard silanes.
  • Wet grip — the grip over RR balance may be improved when using NXT P97 silane.
  • Handling — Compounds with NXT P97 silane may be adjusted to balance dynamic stiffness and tire handling indicators while maintaining competitive RR performance.
  • Compounding — NXT P97 is based on mercapto silane technology. Adjustments may be required when replacing standard silanes to provide sufficient green rubber processability and achieve the full performance benefits of NXT P97 silane. As an example, a vulcanization package containing TBzTD instead of DPG and at least one sulfenamide accelerator may result in sufficient scorch safety and ensure the required crosslink density.
