When properly incorporated in latex, the dual chemical functionality of CoatOSil 1770 silane can benefit both chemical resistance and wet and dry adhesion. Once CoatOSil 1770 silane is added to the latex, a grafting reaction takes place between carboxylic acid salts in the polymer backbone and the epoxy portion of the silane. During coalescence and curing, the alkoxysilane portion of the CoatOSil 1770 silane molecule crosslinks with other silane grafted polymer chains forming stable siloxane bonds.
CoatOSil 1770 silane can be considered for both one- and two-part systems. When formulated, it can typically be added directly to latex, or pre-emulsified before addition. In one-part formulations incorporating CoatOSil 1770 silane, tests have shown formulation stability for over 18 months. By offering this shelf stability and formulation flexibility in a one-part system, CoatOSil 1770 silane can be an advantage over many common crosslinking agents.
Resulting cured coats using CoatOsil 1770 silanecan exhibit improved:
CoatOSil 1770 coatings additive can enhance value and performance in a variety of water based coating formulations.
