Pyrolytic Graphite


A unique form of graphite manufactured by the decomposition of a hydrocarbon gas at very high temperatures within a chemical vapor deposition furnace, pyrolytic graphite possesses mechanical, thermal and electrical properties beyond what is achievable with conventional graphites. An ultra-pure product, pyrolytic graphite is near theoretical density and is highly anisotropic. This specialized graphite is available in plates or machined shapes, or as a coating on graphite and other substrates. 



More About Pyrolytic Graphite

Pyrolytic graphite is chemically inert with high purity and is stable at high temperatures. Pyrolytic graphite is self-lubricating and nondusting, and has a low etch rate. Popular as a coating for sealing machined graphite hardware, pyrolytic graphite forms an impermeable protective layer.

Pyrolytic graphite can be combined with pyrolytic boron nitride to form heating elements for high-temperature, ultra-high-vacuum applications. This combination results in a high-performance ceramic assembly and demonstrates excellent thermal-leveling characteristics.
