The Makers of GE Silicone Help Wounded Veterans

Company provides injured veterans with suitable housing through venture with charitable organization.

WATERFORD, N.Y. (August 5, 2014)--The makers of GE-branded silicone and Building Homes for Heroes® (BHFH) have entered into a charitable co-venture to raise funds and awareness for a critical need-adaptable housing for veterans injured during the time of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The "Step Up to Help A Hero" campaign is launching at Home Depot® stores in 27 states.

This initiative provides support in four ways:

  1. Proceeds donation: 50 cents will be donated to BHFH® for every tube of GE Silicone II* caulk sold as part of this promotion.

  2. Consumer pledges: Shoppers will be encouraged to make donations by texting HELPBHH to 41444 or visiting www.buildinghomesforheroes.org.

  3. Product donations: GE Silicone II caulk will be donated to BHFH® for retrofitting and construction of the homes.

  4. Volunteer support: Consumers will be urged to email info@buildinghomesforheroes.org to find out more about volunteer opportunities at BHFH® building sites.

The funds raised by the manufacturer and exclusive licensee of GE silicone caulks, Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (Momentive), will help to construct and remodel homes that can accommodate veterans' disabilities. These homes will then be gifted to the veterans and their families mortgage-free. BHFH® will build or modify a minimum of 25 homes in 2014, and expects to increase that number to 35 to 40 homes in 2015.

"This initiative is such a natural fit for Momentive, because it aligns so well with our daily mission," said Ray Kolberg, Senior Vice President at Momentive. "Momentive makes tough, enduring GE-branded silicone caulks used in building, remodeling and maintaining homes across the country, and it is an honor that these products are being used to help those who have sacrificed so much."
