Momentive Performance Materials Launches Next Generation of Silopren* Oil-Resistant Liquid Silicone Rubber Products for Automotive Industry

ALBANY, N.Y., October 19, 2011 — Momentive Performance Materials Inc., a leading global provider of silicones and advanced materials, today introduced Silopren* 2171 liquid silicone rubber (LSR), representing a new generation of oil-resistant LSRs for use in the automotive industry. Silopren LSR 2171 is a mineral-filled 70 Shore A hardness grade with low compression set and good tear resistance. Its potential applications include a variety of anti-drainback valves and oil seals found under vehicle hoods.

We are especially pleased with the performance of Silopren LSR 2171 in our 3000-hour test with IRM 903 testing oil for ASTM D471 Standard Test Method to evaluate the comparative ability of rubber and rubber-like compositions to withstand the effect of liquids. Excellent test results are must-haves for automotive tier manufacturers to consider an oil-resistant LSR such as our new Silopren LSR 2171.”

Featured at the FAKUMA international trade fair, October 18-22, in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Silopren LSR 2171 can be a cost-efficient alternative to existing oil-resistant silicone materials. It typically offers excellent processing capabilities in addition to improved physical properties.
