Boron nitride (BN) powders are produced by Momentive in more than 70 individual (standard and custom) grades to meet a wide variety of application needs. Contact Momentive for help in determining the best boron nitride grade for your specific application.

General Characteristics of BN
- Excellent Electrical Insulator
- Low Dielectric Constant
- Low Dielectric Loss
- High Temperature Stability
- Good Thermal Conductor
- Lubricious
- Inert & Chemically Stable
- Non-Wetting to Molten Metals
For use in
Electrically insulating/thermally conductive fillers for heaters, polymer matrices, adhesives, pastes and potting compounds - Lubrication applications for extreme heat or cold, extreme pressure, vacuum environments or harsh chemical exposures
- Refractories and refractory coatings
- Mold/die release
- Metal/ceramic and ceramic/matrix composites
- Lubricants with incidental food contact (several grades carry NSF H-2, HX-2, and HX-1 designations)
Platelets
Momentive manufactures several grades of BN powder that have a crystalline hexagonal platelet morphology. These powders have an average particle size of about 10μm, surface areas that range from 2 to 20 m2/g and tap densities from .25 to .55 g/cc. They show good dispersion, with enhanced lubricity and thermal properties. These powders exhibit the unique properties of boron nitride in a form readily used in the production of many advanced materials.

Agglomerates
Momentive offers boron nitride powders that are made up of particles which are agglomerates of hexagonal BN crystals. These powders can have an average particle size as large as 300μm, surface areas that range from 2 to 40 m2/g and tap densities from .25 to 1.0 g/cc. These powders are granular with good flow and blend characteristics as well as high thermal conductivity and good lubrication qualities.
